What Affects Your Real-World Range
“Up to 73 miles” is the maximum rating. Your range will depend on:
- Assist level and speed: riding in Class 3 at higher speeds uses more energy than lower assist levels.
- Throttle use: pedaling with assist goes further than riding on throttle alone.
- Total weight: rider, passenger and cargo all add load.
- Terrain: frequent climbs use more battery than flat routes.
- Stops and starts: city riding with many stops uses more energy than steady cruising.
- Temperature and tire pressure: cold weather and under-inflated tires both reduce range.
Tips to get more miles
- Use a lower assist level on flat sections and save higher assist for hills.
- Let auto shifting keep your cadence steady rather than relying on throttle.
- Keep tires at the recommended pressure.
- Brake early and smoothly so Kinetic Energy Recovery can put energy back into the battery.

How the MUXI Pro Handles Hills
Power for climbing
The 750 W direct-drive rear hub motor produces up to 80 Nm of torque. BikeRumor described the MUXI Pro as “plenty powerful.” To feel it on your own local hills, book a test ride at a Segway dealer near you.
Auto shifting on climbs
The built-in gyroscope and cadence sensor detect the incline and choose a gear that keeps uphill pedaling comfortable, so you don’t need to downshift before a hill. More on this in How MUXI Pro’s Auto-Shift and Smart Features Work.
Hill Start Assist
Stopping on a hill with cargo or a passenger can be tricky. When enabled in the app, Hill Start Assist holds the bike in place during short stops on an incline. Segway has validated it to hold for up to 2 minutes and 17 seconds on slopes of 8° or less with a rider of 165 lbs (75 kg) or less; hold time is shorter outside those conditions. It is meant for brief pauses, not parking.
Hill Descent Control
On the way down, Hill Descent Control uses motor braking to keep a steady speed and reduce the need for heavy manual braking. It is off by default and can be turned on in the app. When active, riders should expect automatic motor resistance on descents.
Traction Control
TCS watches for wheel slip and adjusts motor power or briefly brakes the slipping wheel, which helps on loose or wet climbs.
