The Segway Xyber Air takes the look of the original Xyber, one of the boldest eBikes Segway has built, and turns it into something you can ride to work, to the beach or across town every day. It’s lighter, it’s street-focused, and it lets you choose how it rides. This guide covers what the Segway Xyber Air is, what’s inside it, and who it’s for.
What Is the Segway Xyber Air?
The original Xyber is an off-road moto-style machine. The Xyber Air keeps that moto look, with the angular frame and X-shaped lights, but it’s built for streets and bike lanes. Popular Science put it this way: “The Xyber Air maintains the original Xyber’s presence while enhancing its practicality to deliver a new on-road e-bike.”
Segway Senior Brand Manager Heather Henderson described the goal as a way to “preserve the visual identity and energy that made the original Xyber stand out, while reimagining the platform for everyday street use.” Read the Popular Science story.
The Xyber Air has an MSRP of $1,999.99.

Pick Your Class: 1, 2 or 3
The Xyber Air can ride as a Class 1, Class 2 or Class 3 eBike, where allowed by law. Class 1 and Class 2 top out at 20 mph, and Class 3 pedal assist goes up to 28 mph. There’s also a Hybrid Mode that gives you throttle up to 20 mph and pedal assist up to 28 mph.*
That flexibility matters because local rules vary. You can match the bike to the paths and roads where you ride, instead of buying a different bike for each.
*Class 3 and Hybrid Mode where permitted by law; Hybrid Mode is not available in California. Riders must follow local speed and age limits.
Power, Range and Weight
- Motor: 750 W rated with up to 80 Nm of torque, and 0 to 20 mph in about 6 seconds.
- Battery and range: a 48 V, 717 Wh battery rated for up to 58 miles.
- Weight: 84 lbs, with a max payload of 330 lbs.
- Fit: designed for riders from 4’8″ to 6′ tall.
Real range depends on speed, rider weight, hills, temperature and tire pressure. The 58-mile rating comes from Segway’s test with a 165-lb rider on flat pavement.

Built for Everyday Streets
Gear Diary summed up the idea well: “The new Segway Xyber Air takes everything great about its predecessor and makes it lighter, more affordable, and focused on everyday riding.” Read the Gear Diary article.
The everyday details back that up. Wide 20 x 4.0-inch tires add grip and stability, an 80 mm front suspension fork smooths out rough pavement, and a 3D-contoured saddle with supportive foam keeps longer rides comfortable. The single-speed drivetrain keeps things simple, with a chain tensioner.
For stopping, front and rear hydraulic disc brakes with 180 mm rotors work with an electronic brake. An automatic LED lighting system with a 600-lumen headlight and a taillight with brake signal helps you see and be seen.
Rider Aids That Step In When You Need Them
- Traction Control System: watches wheel speed and adjusts motor power or briefly applies braking force when it detects slip.
- Hill Descent Control: helps hold a steady downhill speed so you rely less on the brakes.
- Hill Start Assist: holds your position on an incline until you’re ready to go.
The Xyber Air carries UL 2271 and UL 2849 certifications. The IPX7 battery and IPX5 body help provide protection against wet conditions. Do not ride on slippery roads, submerge it or ride through deep water.

Smart Features and Security
The Xyber Air shares the connected tech found across Segway’s eBike lineup.
- AirLock: keyless, proximity-based locking and unlocking through the Segway Mobility app.
- Apple Find My, GPS tracking and Lost Mode: see where your bike is, get Segway Mobility app notifications if someone disturbs it, and turn on Lost Mode to shut the bike down if it goes missing. A wheel lock and motion alarm add another layer of protection. GPS tracking, disturbance notifications and Lost Mode use Segway GPS and cloud services, which are free for the first year and then require a subscription.
- TFT display: navigation, ride data, battery level, calls and music, with automatic brightness.
- Over-the-air updates: new features and firmware arrive through the app.

Who the Xyber Air Is For
AndroidGuys made a similar point: “Its selectable riding classes and connected security features make the strongest argument, particularly for riders who want a single bike for commuting and weekend use.” Read the AndroidGuys article.
The Xyber Air makes the most sense if you want an eBike with real presence for commuting and weekend rides on paved roads, and you’d rather have one bike that can switch classes than shop around local rules.
