The Segway Xiro Automatic Dropper Post has been named a Special Mention in TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026. The recognition places Xiro on TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026 Special Mentions list, one of 100 Special Mentions TIME recognized this year. Here’s what Xiro does, which Segway eBikes it works with, and why it matters for riders.
What TIME Recognized
For more than 25 years, TIME’s annual Best Inventions program has spotlighted innovations across industries. For 2026, TIME selected 300 inventions for its main list and recognized an additional 100 as Special Mentions, including Xiro.
TIME’s write-up focuses on what makes Xiro different: it lowers the seat automatically as you slow to a stop, then brings it back to pedaling height when you push off again. Read TIME’s Xiro feature.

What Is the Segway Xiro Automatic Dropper Post?
Xiro is an electronic dropper post, a seatpost that can raise and lower the saddle while you ride. Most riders set their saddle high for efficient pedaling, which can make it harder to put both feet on the ground at a red light or a busy curb. Xiro is designed to solve that. It automatically lowers the seat when you come to a stop, so you can plant your feet firmly for more stability, comfort and control, without giving up proper seat height while you ride.
Xiro uses speed, cadence and braking sensors working together to signal when to lower the seat as you stop. It draws power from the eBike’s own battery system, so there’s no separate battery to charge.

Key Features
- Automatic drop at stops: the seat lowers when you come to a stop, so your feet can reach the ground.
- Sensor-driven timing: speed, cadence and braking sensors tell Xiro when to lower.
- Integrated power: it connects to the compatible eBike’s battery system, with no extra battery needed.
- Adjustable to you: fine-tune the drop speed and switch Auto-Drop mode on or off.
- Built for everyday riding: tested in accordance with applicable ISO 4210 fatigue and strength test standards for everyday use conditions.
- Specs: 100 mm of travel, 31.6 mm diameter, 660 g, aluminum construction and a max payload of 243 lbs.

Which Segway eBikes Work With Xiro?
Xiro is compatible with the Segway Myon, Segway MUXI and Segway MUXI Pro. Once installed, control is assigned by default to the left round handlebar button, which means the horn function on that button is no longer available. On the Myon, you can reassign Xiro to the right round button instead (originally the light button). The original MUXI does not offer an alternative control option.
Xiro requires professional installation. Segway does not recommend installing it yourself, so plan to have your local dealer fit it to your eBike.
Why It Matters for Everyday Riders
Stopping is one of the moments when riders feel least steady, especially on a heavier eBike, in traffic or with cargo on board. A seat that drops when you stop lets you keep a comfortable, efficient riding position on the move and still put your feet down with confidence at every stop. That’s the idea behind Xiro.
